Changes

We are very excited to let you all know that coming soon will be a new website and blog.  The new site will be Pearl White Studio.  Don’t worry; you will be able to get to us from www.lifeonfilm.com for the foreseeable future.

You can see some subtle changes are already being made.  In the photograph of little Henry, in the blog header, you can see a hint of the new logo that we will be using. If you have visited the site before, and entered the blog from the home page, you may have noticed there has been a change in the wallpaper.  The new wallpaper will also be seen on the blog as well.

Change, as always, can be unsettling for us, but this is going to be a great change as we grow and continue to shift our focus to maternity, newborn, children, and their families.  The changes will take place, as the work gets done, and we will let you know as things are rolled out.

In the meantime, let us know what you think.

YOGA for everyone

I love going to Underground Yoga studio in Watertown owned by Ben McLellan.  The studio has a really great group of teachers who are a joy to learn from.  When I heard that they were going to be redoing their website and would need new photographs I didn’t hesitate to offer my services as a way of saying thank you.  They happily accepted.

Having never photographed a yoga group before, I really wanted to create something different.  I poured over many yoga magazines, and online, to see what other studios were using for to showcase their studio in advertisements.  I saw many different and somewhat unusual poses, many of which the average person would never do.  It was then that I thought of using the work “YOGA” for Underground Yoga.  There are many different poses that could easily create words but simple is always best.  YOGA was all I could think of and I mentioned it to Ben.

On Sunday, even though we had no power or heat in the studio, we happily packed up our equipment and headed to Underground Yoga for a short photo session.  We worked out the poses that we would use, which the average person could do.  Here is a sneak peak at YOGA:

This is  definitely my favorite photograph from the session and it is exactly as I envisioned it would be when I first came up with the idea.

Great photography and the creative staff of  Underground Yoga equals one fabulous photograph that simply says exactly what they do!

And, it was fun, too!

BREAST SELF EXAM and MAMMOGRAM EMAIL REMINDERS

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which educates women about the importance of early detection. More and more women are getting mammograms to detect breast cancer in its earliest stages. As a result, breast cancer deaths are on the decline. Encourage the women in your life to get mammograms on a regular basis. Visit the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month website at http://www.nbcam.org for more information.

The early detection of breast cancer is so important! Stay on top of your self exams and mammograms by using this link to send yourself email reminders. You can enter your information for a monthly self exam reminder, and again for an annual mammogram reminder.

http://www.womanlinks.com/reminders/index.php

I’ve been using Womanlinks to remind me of my mammogram appointments because I’m busy and I forget, even if I write it in my appointment book.  It’s great to get the email, especially as most of us only have a yearly appointment.  This is an extra way to ensure that you are prepared for your appointment and it makes sure that you don’t miss it.

Shoots For a Cure

LIFE ON FILM is excited to announce a partnership with Shoots for a Cure (formerly known as Think Pink Photography). Think Pink Photography was founded in October 2007 to support individuals and their families who have been touched by breast cancer. We are a charitable organization that serves two main purposes – celebrating life and supporting the cause. Recently, we changed our name and our support. We now want to support ALL cancer patients, not just breast cancer.

Through our professional photographer network, we are helping cancer patients to celebrate life with charitable photography sessions. Individuals may choose to document their fight against the disease before or during treatment, or prefer to capture their victory by scheduling a session within 12 months after treatment is completed. Photographers world-wide are now available to donate time and talent to celebrate life and support the cause. There is no cost or obligation to the cancer patient. Clients participating in a Shoots for a Cure session will receive a complimentary photo session, as well as a set of 10 small prints from the session. They will also receive a discount on any additional portraits they wish to purchase, although there is absolutely no purchase required at any time.

To support the cause, we donate and fund-raise for The American Cancer Society, Susan G Komen Foundation and have partnered with The Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation. All funds generated through donations and various fund-raising efforts are paid directly to The American Cancer Society, Susan G Komen Foundation or The Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation in our name. As a 3-time breast cancer survivor, Danielle Beverly and her husband Eric joined together to form a foundation dedicated to promoting education, increasing awareness, and providing support and resources for families who have been touched by breast cancer.

Please subscribe to our blog (on the Shoots for a Cure website) and tell your friends and family about Shoots for a Cure. Awareness is everything and we can’t be successful without you.

I encourage you to view our website, make a donation, or hire a photographer that supports Shoots for a Cure! If you hire me, mention Shoots for a Cure and I will make a personal donation to the organization. If you, or someone you know, would like to schedule a Shoots for a Cure session, please contact me for details.

I am very proud to be a network photographer with Shoots for a Cure, and am anxious to get the word out about this amazing program. For more information, you can contact me, or you can visit the Shoots for a Cure website at http://shootsforacure.com

Simple Lux LLC

I have had a love hate relationship with my desk for a long time.  It’s not that I can’t find things on it, it’s that I have to drill down through stuff to find what I’m looking for.  There was one particular area that I just could never seem to get organized.  No matter how many times I’ve cleared my desk the stuff returns time and again. Arrrghhh!

Simple Lux is about making your life simple.  The sister team of Michele and Meaghan Donarumo are organizing dynamo’s.  Both sisters have their masters in BA and are well versed in organizing, party planning, household management, travel coordination, and anything else you may need help with.  I had found Simple Lux online and was planning on contacting them to help me with my “little” problem.  Luckily for me they had a Living Social special that I jumped on right away.

Michele was my organizer and immediately began the job of my desk re-do.  With her at my side it took us almost two hours to organize and clear the desk, not that it had that much stuff on it, but because we wanted to make sure that I would be able to sustain the space.  I am thrilled with the results.  Now my desk has empty  space.  I feel energized to walk into my office and create artwork for my clients.

Life is best, when you keep it simple.  If you need help to make your life, or your desk, simple, like I did, check out Simple Lux LLC.  Their website is www.simpleluxllc.com.

Thank you Michele!
